Montreal based artist Sandra Chevrier has graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Visual & Media Arts from UQAM and has been exhibiting her works in Berlin, New York, London and Tokyo. Her project “Cages”, an amalgam of fine art and street art, deals with the society’s twisted preconceptions of what women should or should not be. She highlights women’s predefined roles by covering her figure’s bodies with masks. Confronted with false beauty expectations and the need to constantly strive for perfection, her imprisoned and fragile identities are being forced to become superheroes – a metaphor which she depicts through the use of Marvel comic imagery.
