Bartholot is a Berlin based multi-disciplinary visual artist who creates iconic imagery at the interface between art and design. The use of colorful and eye-catching backdrops can be found throughout his works and his bias for paradoxes and bi-polarities are easily recognized when having a closer look at his unconventional images around traditional portraiture and religious iconography. While his creative approach and successful career path is highly influenced by Spanish photographer Álvaro Villarrubia and creative director Sergio del Puerto from design studio Serial Cut, he certainly looks up to historical icons such as Renaissance painter Roger van der Weyden and performance artist Leigh Bowery.
Seeing these stunning imagery you can hardly believe that Bartholot only coincidently slipped into the profession of a photographer. Working as an assistant for Àlvara Villarrubia he acquired substantial photographic skills, which he naturally began to combine with his graphic design background.
