Facing today’s environmental and societal changes with innovative and creative design concepts, Canadian design team behind Jean de Lessard breaks usual codes to free the space and the occupant from conventional concepts. Inspired by Jules Verne’s adventure novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Jean de Lessard reinvents retail experience by transforming the fishmonger Nemeau in Montreal from a traditional fish market into a futuristically designed, beautiful architectual space.
Covered by sculptural glasses in prismatic shapes the wall and the ceiling appear like underwater colour reflections as Nemo and his accomplices might have seen. At the same time these honeycombed formed prismatic shapes function as shelves, an absolutely clever way to maximize the area surface of the store.
